Areas of Research

As an expert on the neurophysiology of severe pyschiatric disorders,  Dr. Daskalakis' research laboratory uses magnetic brain stimulation to study the role of cortical inhibition and plasticity as potential pathophysiological mechanisms in schizophrenia and depression.

Dr. Daskalakis also conducts treatment studies using repetitive transcranial magnetic brain stimulation (rTMS ) for refractory symptoms in these disorders and he leads the rTMS alternative treatment strategy for establishing new and more effective interventions in resistant psychiatric disorders. He has over 65 peer-reviewed publications in journals including the Archives of General Psychiatry and the American Journal of Psychiatry.
