Population-specific services

Many mainstream developmental and mental health agencies are working to make their services more responsive to diverse communities. However, you may need to find services that are designed for groups defined by factors such as gender, age, race, ethnicity, immigration/refugee status, physical ability, sexual orientation, gender identity or religion/spirituality. Some developmental and mental health agencies in Toronto offer services that focus on specific populations (e.g., culture-specific services). Community service organizations that service specific populations may be able to link people to mental health and developmental services.

For information about population-specific services, see:

  • Making choices—categories include services for youth; seniors; ethnocultural/ethnoracial communities; lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual and transgendered communities; and survivors of violence and abuse. See the detailed program search page on the website.
  • 211Toronto—database lists services for youth, seniors, people with physical disabilities (see the health section), people who have experienced violence (e.g., sexual assault or psychological or emotional abuse) and immigrants and newcomers.
