A person living on the street or in a shelter, or waiting for housing while in hospital or in the court system, can be considered unhoused. Living in a shelter is not an appropriate or a supportive long-term housing solution. The person will need help to move toward more stable and satisfying housing.
The goal is to start a process that will lead to stable housing. You have a long journey ahead, so it's worth getting started now.
If you need to find housing right away, see Transitional Housing in the Housing Options section.
If you want to develop a plan to find appropriate housing and support, go to the Planning section.
