Youth & Drugs and Mental Health Online Course
Course Session Begins: October 5, 2009
This eight-week online course is a training companion for the publication Youth & Drugs and Mental Health: A Resource for
Professionals. The course will focus on key aspects of an integrated approach to treatment of concurrent mental health and
substance use problems among youth. Various instructional activities (online reading materials, links to web resources, individual
activities and group discussions) will be used.
At the end of this course, you will be able to
- describe adolescent development and other risk and protective factors associated with substance and mental health problems
in youth
- identify substance use, mental health issues and concurrent disorders in youth
- apply appropriate treatment approaches effective for youth, including integrative treatment models, motivational interviewing,
cognitive behavioural therapy, medications and First Contact (a brief treatment module for young substance users with mental
health problems)
