Opioid Dependence Treatment (ODT) Certificate Program

Description

The Opioid Dependence Treatment Certificate Program has been developed to prepare physicians, pharmacists, nurses and counsellors to provide a comprehensive range of services for people with opioid dependence. The certificate program consists of a core program and six elective courses.

Requirements

Participants interested in obtaining a Certificate in Opioid Dependence Treatment must complete the core course plus three or four elective courses to meet the certificate requirement of a total of 39 or more hours.

All professionals are encouraged to complete the entire certificate program, to improve their skills and knowledge in treating opioid dependence. As of January 1, 2009, physicians are required to complete the certificate program within three years of receiving their methadone exemption.

Participants who are not pursing the Certificate have the option of taking elective courses independently.

Accreditation

The program is held under the auspices of Continuing Education, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto and Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH).

The program meets the accreditation criteria of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and has been accredited for up to 83.5 Mainpro- M1 credits.

The Ontario College of Pharmacists' has assigned CEUs to the program.

The program is approved for CACCF CEC hours
