Concurrent Disorders Certificate Program

Description

The Concurrent Disorders Certificate Program is designed to help participants gain skills and knowledge to better identify, assess and provide treatment to people with concurrent disorders. This program requires the completion of a core course followed by two electives, plus a learning contract assignment (details will be provided at the start of the core course). 

 

University of Toronto sponsorship

  • This has been approved as a “Certificate of Completion” program by the Office of Continuing Education and Professional Development, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto.
  • The program sponsor is Wayne Skinner, MSW, RSW; Deputy Clinical Director, Addictions Program, Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH); Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatry, University of Toronto; Adjunct Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto.
  • Speakers and planning committee members will be requested to disclose to the audience any real or apparent conflict(s) of interest that may have a direct bearing on the subject matter of this program.

 

Prerequisites

While there are no specific prerequisites for this program, participants are strongly encouraged to have some background in either mental health or addictions. Some possible preparatory courses and tutorials include:

 

Requirements

To receive a certificate of completion for the Concurrent Disorders Certificate Program, you must:

  • successfully complete the Concurrent Disorders Core Course
  • successfully complete two elective courses within a four-year period after starting the core course
  • complete all components of the certificate program’s learning contract
  • submit a written request to graduate, listing the specific courses you have completed to meet the requirements for a certificate.

To ensure that the electives will help to expand participants’ knowledge in the area of concurrent disorders, electives must be taken within a four-year period after completing the core course. Please note that any courses taken prior to the core program will not count toward the certificate. Participants will need to either re-take those courses or select electives that they have not previously taken.
