Building and Sustaining Equitable Partnerships with Diverse Communities/Groups

This two-day course is for people who want to partner with diverse communities to provide mental health and substance use
services. The course uses interactive, practical strategies and tools to introduce key elements and phases of the partnership
process. It examines why some partnerships with marginalized communities are effective and why many are not. At the end of
the course, participants will be able to assess and build on their strengths and identify strategies that foster equitable
and effective partnerships and overcome specific barriers and challenges.
Who is encouraged to participate?
Therapists, counsellors, educators, program developers and managers in the human and social service fields who are planning
to work/partner with diverse groups and/or communities.
Participants will learn about
- several partnership models, definitions and examples
- how the issues of power and diversity, personal world-views and cultural assumptions influence partnership dynamics
- strategies to address key personal and organizational barriers and challenges
- resources, including practical tools, that can help with partnership initiation, growth and evaluation
