Dr. Paula Goering is Head of the Health Systems Research and Consulting Unit in the Social Prevention and Health Policy Research Department. She is Vice-Chair of Programs and Planning and a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry with cross-appointments to Faculty of Nursing, Health Policy, Management and Evaluation and the Institute for Medical Science at the University of Toronto. Dr. Goering also holds a Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR )/Canadian Health Services Research Foundation (CHSRF) Health Services Chair. She is Vice-Chair of CIHR’s Health Services and Policy Research Institute Advisory Board.

Areas of Research
Dr. Goering is committed to research that includes rigorous methods and is focused upon practical solutions. She has an ongoing, related interest in the transfer of knowledge and has consequently worked creatively with diverse constituencies and audiences, including government policy makers. Dr. Goering’s expertise includes psychiatric epidemiology, case management evaluation, homelessness, mental health services delivery and policy reform. Studies include: “Mental Health Supplement to the Ontario Health Survey”, “The Hostel Outreach Program”, “Best Practices in Mental Health Reform”, “The Pathways into Homelessness Project” and “The Community Mental Health Evaluation Initiative”. Dr. Goering is currently leading the Service Enhancement Evaluation Initiative for the Ontario Ministry of Health that includes two longitudinal studies as well as a knowledge exchange network. This initiative is designed to: fill gaps in the knowledge base; support collaborations between providers and researchers; and provide opportunities for training in research.
