Human Neurochemical Pathology Laboratory Centre for Addiction and Mental Health 250 College Street Toronto, Ontario M5T 1R8 (416) 535-8501 ext. 6256 stephen_kish@camh.net
Dr. Stephen Kish is a Senior Scientist and Head of the Human Neurochemical Pathology Laboratory in the Neurosicience Department. He is a Professor of Psychiatry and Pharmacology with the Institute of Medical Science at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Kish studies the human brain monoamine neurotransmitter systems in movement disorders with the objective to develop better treatment for patients who have behavioral problems because of brain dopamine “excess” (methamphetamine users) and deficiency (Parkinson’s disease) conditions. Dr. Kish’s preclinical work focuses on neurochemical analyses of brain of chronic users of the stimulant drugs methamphetamine and ecstasy, and the brain of patients with movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease and multiple system atrophy. These investigations utilize post-mortem brain and brain scan (by PET) approaches.
