Transgenic Centre: Research Annual Report 2002
Advances in molecular and genetic research have increased our need to analyse the function of genes in physiological contexts.
New technologies can easily modify genetic material in the germ line of mice or introduce new genetic material in selected
tissues or organs through viral-mediated gene transfer. These technologies have given us new opportunities to study the function
of genes in whole animals, extending the molecular and genetic revolution to the realm of behavioural research.
The Transgenic Facility breeds and maintains transgenic mice strains for CAMH researchers. The facility is also equipped to
help scientists create their own transgenic mice strains or to employ viral-mediated gene transfer experiments. This year,
the facility lent its services to researchers in the Molecular Neuroscience, Biopsychology and Neuroimaging sections.
