Social and Epidemiological Research Groups
Research on populations
One goal of SER research is to understand trends in mental health and addiction issues in different populations or groups
of people, through population health surveys. This work is conducted by the Population Health Group. This type of research also helps to identify the factors that lower or raise the risk of developing problems, as a focus
for solutions.

Research on health care systems and services
The Health Systems and Health Equity Research Group studies how health systems are planned and organized based on evidence. The aim is to see if services are delivered efficiently
and effectively. It also looks at whether services meet the needs of people with mental health and addictions problems. An
important aspect of this work is to improve access to services among vulnerable groups, such as homeless youth, aboriginal
citizens or individuals from sexual minorities.

Research on community programs and policy
Social and Community Interventions and Policy Research improves our understanding of how to prevent mental health or addictions problems. This research knowledge is used to develop
and evaluate new approaches to prevention. This research often takes place in settings in the community, rather than in CAMH
facilities. Researchers in this group also assess how well current programs, public policy and legislation are working to
prevent and reduce problems related to mental health, alcohol use, drug use and gambling.
