Summary:
Methods for the treatment of certain impulse control disorders characterized by boredom proneness or impulsivity, such as problem gambling, are described. Methods of the present invention comprise the administration of a drug that is currently approved and marketed for other neuropsychiatric condition. The invention also describes the use of this drug for the reduction of the primed motivation to gamble; decrease of the reinforcing effect of gambling; reduction of enjoyment of slot machine gambling; production of improvement in inhibitory control following gambling episode; and production of a more rapid adoption of a low risk gambling strategy. 2 to 5% of the general population meet clinical criteria for problem gambling. The consequences of problem gambling are often severe, including job loss, marital breakdown and suicide. At present, there is no medication specifically indicated for the treatment of problem gambling
