Title: Compositions and Methods for Modulating Dopamine Neurotransmission
Inventor: Fang Liu
Summary:
The present invention provides for the diagnosis or treatment of neurological or neuropsychiatric disorders involving abnormal
neurotransmission (e.g. psychostimulant addiction, depression, obesity, ADHD, narcolepsy, Parkinson’s disease, schizophrenia,
Tourette’s syndrome). Methods and agents are provided for modulating dopamine transporter activity and modulating dopaminergic
neurtotransmission. Although known dopaminergic stimulants (such as amphetamine, and dopamine uptake blockers etc.) can treat
a variety of disorders such as ADHD, obesity and narcolepsy, the lack of neuronal selectivity of action could limit the clinical
utility of the drugs. Novel agents of the present invention, which act on the brain dopamine system, have shown some behavioural
properties characteristic of dopaminergic stimulant in in vivo animal models. However, these novel agents can be expected
to have a more useful side effect profile in the clinic due to improved selectivity of action.
