Summary:
The present invention relates to the diagnosis and treatment of mood disorders by assessing the levels of certain brain enzymes. More specifically, imaging techniques are utilized for diagnosis, and assisting in deciding or developing treatment for mood disorders such as major depressive disorders. Also provided are methods of monitoring treatment of a mood disorder based on fluctuations in the level of the brain enzymes. Furthermore, in patients that are asymptomatic for a mood disorder, and have previously been symptomatic for the mood disorder, methods for assessing risk for recurrence of mood disorder symptoms are described.
