ADAT: Why use ADAT?
The main purpose of the core assessment (ADAT) tools is to help determine the most appropriate level and intensity of care
for the client at that point in time. This list of core assessment tools was not designed to collect all of the information
that could determine specific treatment needs, but rather, in conjunction with the Admission/Discharge Criteria, to determine
where the client best fits within the system of addictions services available in Ontario (i.e., entry; initial assessment
and treatment planning; case management; community treatment; community day/evening treatment; community medical/psychiatric
treatment; residential treatment; residential supportive treatment; residential medical/psychiatric treatment; community withdrawal
management; residential withdrawal management). ADAT is designed to support the principle of Least Intrusive Treatment First.
It is understood that a more comprehensive assessment will be needed to establish the clinical plan for the client.
