Alternate Milieu Model: It's a hit!
Construction on the first phase of the redevelopment of CAMH's Queen Street site will begin late this summer, breaking ground on our new Alternate Milieu buildings, for the care and recovery of our clients
in a more homelike setting. Over the past couple of months, some of you have had the opportunity to tour the model of the
Alternate Milieu client bedroom with the ensuite washroom and partial hallway, which was built in the Queen Street site community
centre.

A total of 467 feedback forms were received with close to 20 per cent being filled out by clients and family members. Most
of the comments were very positive, and other comments provided constructive feedback on the function and design.
We will be making some changes based on feedback we received. For example, the big armchair in the room will be redesigned
as people said it was uncomfortable to sit in. We will also change the desk to make it more comfortable to use. The built-in
headboard will be removed so that there is more flexibility as to where the bed can be placed in the room. The window will
be made easier to open to allow more airflow. The shower design will be modified and it will allow for continuous water flow
rather than timed shut off. There will also be some minor changes to make the room easier to clean.
Thank you to all who took the time to give us your comments. This will help us to better design the rooms in the AM buildings
when we begin construction in late summer.
