Editor's Note...Breakthrough Spring 2005
Breakthrough
As we enter our fifth year of publication in 2005 we have a lot to be proud of.
Five years ago we said we wanted Breakthrough to be a vehicle to share information that can help make a difference in how
you interact with CAMH, and that introduces you to all of the different things that CAMH does and can do for you as a client,
patient or family member. Over the years we have covered topics ranging from Confidentiality, Training and Work issues to Older Adults and Youth, in addition to articles on what's going on across the organization in terms of research, events, programs and services.
As always we continue to welcome any suggestions on topics for future issues from our readers.
In this issue of Breakthrough we look at the clinics, programs and services that take place 'off-site', although this issue
could also be dedicated to the many partnerships that CAMH has with organizations in our community!
Jason Spence gives us an inside look at the Assistant Cook Extended Training (ACET) Program, a partnership with George Brown College, currently entering its second year. Samuel Awe shares his story about his experience with Schizophrenia and how the Shared Care Clinical Outreach Program helped him to get off the streets.
There is also information on the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA), which came into effect on November 1, 2004.
We also wanted to let you know that the CAMH Bill of Client Rights has been passed. We will have more about this great accomplishment in future issues, but for now we want you to join us in
celebrating this achievement. For more information see Clients are asking.
This is my first issue as the new editor of Breakthrough. As I take over the reins from Lisa Schmidt, who was with the newsletter
from its birth, I want to extend thanks to her for her commitment and determination in making Breakthrough an informative
and useful publication. Enjoy the issue!
