Update - An update on the CAMH Bill of Client Rights

Breakthrough

Fall 2005

It has been nearly a year since CAMH's Board of Trustees adopted the CAMH Bill of Client Rights. The Bill of Client Rights is about all people who use CAMH services feeling they are safe, protected and respected. Given that the Bill's one-year anniversary is near, Breakthrough would like to provide you with an update on the Bill.

Representatives from the Empowerment Council along with members of CAMH's senior clinical staff have been travelling to all the departments at CAMH to talk about the Bill of Client Rights, answer questions and ensure that all staff are aware of it and uphold the rights contained within the Bill.

There are plans to translate the Bill of Client Rights into languages other than English.

Beamer Smith and Jennifer Chambers are presented with the award by Theresa Claxton, Chair, Ontario Association of Patient Councils (OAPC).

The Bill is becoming recognized as a model document that is now setting the standard for client protection within our sector. On October 21, 2005 the Ontario Association of Patient Councils (OAPC), a collaborative forum for client representatives from health care organizations across the province, presented the CAMH Empowerment Council with an award in recognition of their efforts to create the CAMH Bill of Client Rights. The award was presented to Jennifer Chambers, Empowerment Council Co-ordinator and Beamer Smith, Chair of the Empowerment Council at OAPC's 10th anniversary commemoration event.
