Editor's note: Breakthrough Fall 2004

At the Centre

While there are many similarities between men and women, there are enough differences between them, especially when it comes to their bodies and their health, to pay close attention to how these differences can influence both men's and women's well-being.

This issue of Breakthrough takes a closer look at a few issues that are particular to women, specifically those related to the safety of medications for women, and to  the issue of women, pregnancy  and smoking.

There is also a short article in this issue about CAMH's Cultural Interpretation Services, a unique service at CAMH that helps members of diverse communities receive services in the language they are most at ease communicating in. The service also places an emphasis on respecting our clients' unique circumstances in terms of their culture, religion, race, ethnicity and immigrant or  refugee status.

Finally, this issue also features a poem by a client, Robert Gabriel called 'A New Friend,' and we are delighted to be able to publish it for your enjoyment.

Please enjoy the issue and as usual, send your comments and feedback to us.

Breakthrough has been published for almost four years now, and throughout the years, I have had the pleasure of meeting a variety of clients and family members at CAMH who have shared great ideas for stories and helped Breakthrough cover an extraordinary amount of topics in a short period of time. Please accept my personal thanks for helping us create what has hopefully been an informative and helpful publication for clients and family members. Starting with the winter issue, you will be able to enjoy Breakthrough produced by  the new editor, Becky McEwen, who can be reached at <becky_mcewen@camh.net> or by calling (416) 535-8501 ext. 6663.

Thanks again for your interest in Breakthrough; we look forward to providing informative and entertaining issues in the months and years ahead.
