What behaviours and relationships are never acceptable?
CrossCurrents
- Sexual relationships with clients
- Borrowing money from clients
- Consuming alcohol or other drugs with clients
- Situations that exploit or cause harm to the client, where the counsellor’s needs have been set before the client’s needs
- A relationship from which the health care professional gains personal benefit
- Any relationship causing the client to feel trapped or obligated in any way. Even if there hasn’t been an act in doing so,
simply the feeling on a client’s part can be a violation
- Any situation where the health care professional is stopped from offering her or his personal best to the client
