Drug Use among Ontario Students - Findings from the OSDUS (1977–2003)
CAMH Research Document Series No. 13
Since 1977, the Ontario Drug Use Survey (OSDUS) has collected data illustrating the rates and patterns of drug use among students in grades seven to 12. The survey, conducted
by CAMH, is the longest ongoing study of adolescents in Canada. This report focuses on alcohol and other drug use among Ontario
students from 1977 to 2003. The OSDUS contributes to our understanding of current and changing patterns of substance use,
the associated problems, and the social and demographic correlates.
The 2003 survey revealed that:
-
45 per cent of Grade 11 students reported having used cannabis in the past year
-
4 per cent reported having taken LSD in the past year
-
5.4 per cent reported having taken methamphetamine (speed) during the past year, compared with 8.2 per cent in 1999.
