Influencing Policy

What is The Partnership?

What is The Partnership?

Provincial organizations representing mental health and addictions consumers and service providers work very closely together. Through a collaborative known as The Partnership, these organizations are committed to raising the profile of mental health and addiction problems in Ontario, and strengthening the supports for the clients, families and communities affected by these problems. The Partnership consists of the following organizations: Addictions Ontario, the Canadian Mental Health Association Ontario, the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, the Ontario Association of Patient Councils, the Ontario Federation of Community Mental Health and Addiction Programs, and the Ontario Peer Development Initiative.

In 2007, The Partnership published its analysis of the Integrated Health Service Plans developed by each LHIN in late 2006. The report found that mental health and addictions were a higher priority in areas where a strong, effective network of mental health and addictions providers and consumers worked together. This is what motivates The Partnership to strengthen its provincial policy and advocacy activity. The Partnership produces policy positions on issues such as provincial role in a regionalized system, and on the legislation establishing the LHINs. The Partnership develops budget submissions, and published a 2007 pre-election paper with recommendations on policy positions for the political parties. The Partnership also engages frontline mental health and addictions workers and consumers in its work through webinars and policy forums.
