Influencing Policy

International Drug Policy 2009

This is a critical time in International Drug Policy. In March 2009 the Commission on Narcotic Drugs will be meeting to review progress of international drug policy over the last 10 years and set the agenda for the next 10 years. Non-governmental organizations have been working to ensure that their voice is part of this process through an initiative called Beyond 2008. This initiative has included consultations in all areas of the globe as well as an international meeting of NGOs in Vienna in July 2008 at which an historic Declaration and Resolutions were agreed upon.

CAMH hosted a webinar on the Beyond 2008 initiative on February 6, 2009 featuring Michel Perron, Chief Executive Officer, Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse and Chair of the Steering Committee for the Beyond 2008 NGO Forum and Gail Czukar, Executive Vice President, Policy, Education and Health Promotion, Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and Co-Chair, Canadian Executive Council on Addictions. Below is a video file of the webinar, the presentations from the speakers as well as the Beyond 2008 Declaration and Resolutions. Learn more about what’s happening in international drug policy.
