CAMH to open one-of-a-kind forensic unit for women in Ontario
For Immediate Release (TORONTO) - On January 19, 2007 at 10:00 a.m., the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) in Toronto will be opening the Women's
Medium Secure Forensic Unit-- the only gender-specific unit of its kind in Ontario.
The Honourable George Smitherman, Ontario's Minister of Health and Long-Term Care will be addressing a number of special guests at the opening ceremonies,
followed by a tour of the unique features of the new women's unit. The media are invited to attend.
Part of CAMH's Law and Mental Health Program, this unique 6-bed unit has been specially designed and staffed to treat women
with serious mental illness who are under the purview of the Ontario Review Board and require specialized care and rehabilitation.
