CAMH scientist receives CIHR grant to study workplace mental health
CAMH’s Dr. Carolyn Dewa, Head of the Work and Well-being Research and Evaluation Program, received an Applied Public Health Chair from Canadian Institutes
of Health Research (CIHR) Institute of Public and Population Health and the Public Health Agency of Canada. The grant is awarded
for her project, "developing effective interventions for mental illness and mental health in the working population."
Using a trans-disciplinary approach to research, Dr. Dewa investigates workplace mental health by examining the impact of
work on people with mental illness, and the workplace's impact on mental health. This research program will move the field
forward by enhancing our understanding of effective primary, secondary and tertiary prevention interventions for the working
population based on research evidence.
The 14 chairs announced today will examine a variety of areas including, obesity, sexually transmitted diseases among youth,
animal transmitted diseases, drug use, health among First Nations and Métis people, mental health in the workplace and how
neighbourhoods influence our health.
