CAMH Scientist receives Early Researcher Award from the Ministry of Research and Innovation

Today at an event held by the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation, Dr. Daniel Mueller, CAMH’s Pharmacogenetics Research Clinic Head, received an Early Researcher Award from Minister Glen Murray. Dr. Mueller is currently studying the genes that help the liver break down antipsychotic and antidepressant drugs in patients with mental illnesses.

The Early Researcher Award program helps promising Ontario researchers build their research teams of undergraduates, graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, research assistants, associates, and technicians. The goal of the program is to improve Ontario’s ability to attract and retain the best and brightest research talent.

With the help of this Early Researcher Award, Dr. Mueller’s research team will seek the most effective combination of drugs and dosages for psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia and depression, leading to personalized treatment, fewer side effects and reduced health care costs in Ontario.
