Volunteer Week – see compassion in action at CAMH!

CAMH celebrates National Volunteer Week – join us!

National Volunteer Week, April 19th to 25th, pays tribute to the millions of Canadian volunteers across the country that give of themselves to better their communities. It is a time for all of us to pause and celebrate the energy and commitment of volunteers. 

People who volunteer have a sense of connectedness and well-being and as they participate in nurturing their environments; whether it is in hospital corridors, in schools, on playing fields or in board rooms all for good reasons and common purposes. Volunteering allows us to give of ourselves, share our wealth, and express our human values of community and caring while finding solutions to shared challenges.

The theme for this year is “Volunteers - From Compassion to Action,” it reflects volunteers who move from care and concern for CAMH’s clients and the CAMH community to actually expressing that concern through their actions as a volunteer throughout the organization. CAMH volunteers spend time with clients providing mentorship, recreation opportunities and so much more; they assist staff with research; they donate, give, participate on committees, befriend and lend a helping hand. They plant, feed, soothe, visit, knit, plan, coordinate, paint, sort and prepare. They are the young and the old and the in between.

“On behalf of the clients and staff, I wish to sincerely thank all of our volunteers for the generous donation of their time and energy as well as their commitment to eliminating stigma associated with mental health and addiction issues. I also want to thank the staff who support volunteers throughout CAMH, for helping them translate their compassion into action and making their placements so successful,” said Michael Taylor, Manager, CAMH Volunteer Resources and Spiritual and Religious Care.
