Gifts of Light strikes a chord with community members
Response from the community to the CAMH Foundation’s new charitable giving program, Gifts of Light, is surpassing expectations,
according to Dean Hughes, the CAMH Foundation’s VP Community Development.
“Not only are people giving gifts, but members of the community have reached out and offered to help in other ways such as
baking cookies and volunteering. We are very touched by this wonderful outpouring of support and compassion from our neighbours
and the community at large.” Some of these volunteers will be at the CAMH Foundation offices on December 17th helping to wrap the gifts. They will be given to clients on December 18th and 19th.
For most of us, the holidays are a time when we celebrate with loved ones, but for people hospitalized for mental illness
or addiction, it can be an extremely lonely time. Gifts of Light are practical gifts, ranging in price from $10 to $75. The
gifts are carefully selected items that will bring comfort to those staying at CAMH, including a care kit, blanket, robe and
sleepwear. Each gift is a reminder to patients that someone cares and they are not alone in their journey to recovery.
