Amex Bank of Canada vs. CAMH clients: Round 2

In celebration of Therapeutic Recreation Week, eight corporate volunteers from AMEX Bank of Canada returned to CAMH to challenge 15 clients from the Schizophrenia and Law and Mental Health programs, as well as the Centre Wide Recreation program, for a friendly game of basketball.

This was the second year this group has been involved with the CAMH Corporate Volunteer program. “Amex Bank of Canada is another example of a company that we created a partnership with and sustained a relationship as well.  Once companies have connected with CAMH, they are so profoundly affected by their experience that they return and create annual events with us,” said, Jim Davey, corporate volunteer program coordinator.

Amex Bank of Canada volunteers rise up to the challenge of eliminating stigma after playing basketball with the clients.

“The idea that you cannot run these types of programs (that CAMH does) successfully was dismissed in my eyes. CAMH runs fantastic programs and I was very pleasantly surprised. It did not feel like ‘volunteering’ at all, it simply felt like I was at the gym with a bunch of people playing a pick up game of basketball on a Thursday morning,” said one Amex Bank Corporate Volunteer.
