National Addictions Awareness Week: November 13-19, 2011
CAMH Addictions Program Day invites you to Clinical Day
Each year during the third week of November, National Addictions Awareness Week aims to raise public awareness of addiction
issues and to recognize the efforts of communities across Canada to increase awareness of addiction. In addition to using
this week to focus on the harms associated with alcohol, drugs, tobacco, and gambling, this year CAMH is inviting partners
and community members to our second annual Clinical Day (PDF) on Monday, December 5.
CAMH’s Addictions Program Clinical Day is a one-day event designed to provide education and training on evidence-based practices
in addiction treatment, while sharing information about enhancing access to addiction services. Health care practitioners
and community partners are invited to join in for an interactive learning experience where information sharing, dialogue and
networking will take place.
Our workshops in addiction treatment cover a range of key topics such as:
- Trauma and addiction treatment
- Assessment and management of self-harm behaviour
- Internet/cyber addiction
- Chronic pain and opioid dependence
- The neurochemistry of addiction
- Cultural competence for concurrent disorders
- Mindfulness in addiction treatment
- Exploring clinical ethical dilemmas in addiction treatment
In addition, poster presentations will showcase the range of services available within the Addictions Program. The intention
of Clinical Day is to share knowledge about the latest clinical practices and research findings in addiction treatment and
to enhance awareness of the array of treatment services in CAMH’s Addictions Program.

to be missed if you have an interest in addictions, mental health, concurrent disorders, probation and parole, child and youth
and family, child protection or primary care.
