April is the 10th Annual National Poetry Month
Workman Arts is proud to be a part of Poetry Without Borders presented by the League of Canadian Poets
You are invited to be a part of TWO exciting POETRY READINGS featuring Penn Kemp and bill bissett, presented at the CAMH College Street site & Queen Street site and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
Penn is performing on April 3 at the College Street Auditorium (G58) and on April 25th, bill bissett & Penn will perform at
the Queen Street site's Malcolmson Lecture Theatre. Both readings will begin at 12:00 PM and are open to the public.
These readings will be infused with energy as both Penn and bill have been 'Sound Poets' and performing for years.
Sound poetry focusses on the aural manipulation of words rather than the literal text. It's a combination of precise literature
and the interpolation of music that is wasted if only read on paper. It is the celebration of the human voice, of an experimental
sensory experience that pushes the boundaries of language.
Penn Kemp proclaimed a foremother of Canadian poetry by The League of Canadian Poets, Penn Kemp has been pushing poetic boundaries,
often in participatory performance, since 1972. See www.pennkemp.ca, www.mytown.ca/pennkemp. Through Pendas Productions,
Penn edits and publishes poetry book/cd combinations. Among her own publications are twenty-five books of poetry and drama
as well as ten CDs of her performances. Penn hosts Gathering Voices on chrwradio.com/talk/gatheringvoices, and mytown.ca/vivalavida.
bill bissett has written more than 60 books that are immediately identifiable by the incorporation of his artwork and his
consistently phonetic (funetik) spelling. bissett has been described as:
“bill bissett is a one-man culture... he is a lesson to us all." -- James Reaney
"bill bissett is my astral twin" -- Margaret Atwood
"The greatest living poet today" -- Jack Kerouac on bill bissett, Paris Review.
Workman Arts gratefully acknowledges the support of the Canada Council for the Arts and League of Canadian poets for supporting
the poetry readings!
