PROFILES:

Suman Fernando, MB B Chir, MD (Camb) FRCPsych, UK
Suman Fernando is Honorary Senior Lecturer in Mental Health at the European Centre for the Study of Migration & Social Care at the University of Kent (UK) and Visiting Professor at Department of Applied Social Sciences, London Metropolitan University, London (UK). He has lectured and written widely on issues of racism and cultural diversity in mental health and social care. He has written and edited several books – the latest book being Mental Health in a Multi-ethnic Society. He is consultant to the Teasdale-Corti Program on “political violence, natural disasters and mental health outcomes: developing innovative health policies and interventions. He is involved in voluntary organizations serving Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) groups in London (UK) and vice patron of a mental health NGO in Sri Lanka. He is Hon. Senior Lecturer, European Centre for Study of Migration & Social Care (MASC).

Clarissa Chandler
Clarissa Chandler has offered facilitation, consultation, research and educational services through LCC Consulting since 1995 to public and private nonprofits, government agencies and educational institutions. She specializes in facilitation, training, strategic management, planning, program design, organizational services and public policy development with a specific focus on psychic trauma and its intersections.
She conceptualized and staffed a project in Los Angeles California called the Double Jeopardy Project for the Alcoholism Center for Women. This project brought together members in Los Angeles County from multiple systems to address systemic responses to trauma and addiction, and gained national attention. She went on to provide consultation in this area across Canada and the United States for women’s recovery services, trauma services, corrections and mental health at organizational, regional and national levels.

Kwame McKenzie
Dr. McKenzie is a psychiatrist, researcher and policy advisor. He has worked in the field of the cause of psychosis and in cross cultural mental health for 19 years. He has set up award winning mental health services and has over 100 academic publications including four books. He drafted the UK Department of Health’s policy for improving mental health services for minority ethnic groups.
In addition Dr. McKenzie is a broadcaster, having presented series on TV and radio for worked for the BBC, London and written columns for the Guardian and the Times on line.
Dr. McKenzie is a Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto and a Senior Scientist in Social Equity and Health Research, Medical Director for Diversity and Deputy Director of the Schizophrenia Program at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.

Roy Moodley, PhD
Roy Moodley is Associate Professor in Counselling Psychology at OISE, University of Toronto, Director of the Centre for Diversity in Counselling and Psychotherapy. Research and publication interests include multicultural and diversity counselling and psychotherapy; traditional and cultural healing practices; race, culture, and ethnicity in psychotherapy; and masculinities.

Martha Ocampo, RN
Martha Ocampo is the former Co-director of Programs and Services at Across Boundaries (AB), now the Education and Resource Manager. Played a key role in developing the Centre’s Holistic Model of Care within an Anti-Racism/Anti-Oppression Framework. Integrates indigenous practices, art, politics, spirituality and community involvement in developing services and programs that enhance healing and recovery. Has a long history of providing educational and training workshops at mental health agencies, colleges, universities and the general public. Developed a Leadership and Advocacy Training for marginalized groups and she co-authored “Let’s Talk” a guidebook on education about Violence Against Women in the Filipino community.
