Singer/Songwriter Amy Sky

Celebrated Toronto singer/songwriter Amy Sky overcomes postpartum depression and now uses her voice to help others

Being a three-time Juno Award nominee, a winner of three SOCAN awards and writing songs for artists such as Olivia Newton-John, Reba McEntire and Diana Ross did not prevent Amy Sky from unexpectedly suffering from postpartum depression.  And, like many new mothers, the condition took Amy completely by surprise.

Almost immediately after giving birth to her daughter Zoe, Amy burst into tears and was unable to comprehend why she was crying.  In the weeks to follow, she experienced extreme episodes of fatigue, was overwhelmed by her physical exhaustion and found it difficult to care for her daughter on her own.  Not long after that, Amy began to hear voices and have frightening hallucinations. Amy decided to get help.  She called her doctor and after a careful analysis, he diagnosed her with postpartum depression.

Although surprised by her diagnosis, Amy treated her illness and was soon free from the sudden panic attacks and crushing emotional lows that prevented her from enjoying the arrival of her daughter.  Amy now uses her artistic talents to raise awareness of postpartum depression to ensure that woman experiencing similar symptoms come forward instead of hiding their pain.
