Steps to becoming a volunteer at CAMH

Step 1

  • Complete an application form which can be obtained from the CAMH website or pick one up at 1001 Queen St. in the Volunteer Resources office
  • Ensure that you have provided two references from people who are aware of your work capabilities
  • Some volunteer positions require criminal reference checks

Step 2

  • Potential volunteers will be interviewed after the reference check is completed to determine general suitability, as well as to identify a specific appropriate assignment
  • Placements are based on a balance between staff and client needs and the volunteer’s motivations, abilities and interests
  • Coordinators will notify potential volunteers about the outcome of their interview

Step 3

  • All volunteers must attend training prior to starting their placement

Step 4

  • Preplacement health screening that includes a two step TB test

Step 5

  • Registration process
  • Service agreements are completed by all volunteers and their supervisors
  • Confidentiality and registrations forms completed
  • CAMH policy and procedures training

Step 6

  • Orientation to placement area
