Steps to becoming a volunteer at CAMH
Step 1
- Complete an application form which can be obtained from the CAMH website or pick one up at 1001 Queen St. in the Volunteer
Resources office
- Ensure that you have provided two references from people who are aware of your work capabilities
- Some volunteer positions require criminal reference checks
Step 2
- Potential volunteers will be interviewed after the reference check is completed to determine general suitability, as well
as to identify a specific appropriate assignment
- Placements are based on a balance between staff and client needs and the volunteer’s motivations, abilities and interests
- Coordinators will notify potential volunteers about the outcome of their interview
Step 3

All volunteers must attend training prior to starting their placement
Step 4
- Preplacement health screening that includes a two step TB test
Step 5
- Registration process
- Service agreements are completed by all volunteers and their supervisors
- Confidentiality and registrations forms completed
- CAMH policy and procedures training
Step 6
- Orientation to placement area
