Volunteer Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What are the requirements for being a volunteer at the Centre?

You must be 19 years of age or over.

We do look for a minimum commitment of 1 year.

You must have a t.b. test done which is mandatory as you wil be in contact with clients. (this is a 2 step process). You
can get it done at the Centre or through your own Family Dr.

Volunteers must maintain confidentiality and sign a Pledge of Confidentiality form amongst other forms when they register.
Can I volunteer at more than one site at the same time? We prefer that you commit to one site for a minimum of 6 months - 1 year before you explore other opportunities.
I am a Senior and retired. Can I volunteer? Yes.
Can I volunteer in a role on my own without supervision? No. You must have a Supervisor.
I'll be volunteering with children at the Clarke site, must I get a police/criminal reference check? Yes. This is mandatory if you are volunteering with children.
How do I become a Volunteer at the Centre?

Please submit your resume as well to the relevant Volunteer Coordinator of the site you are choosing.

Allow 1-2 months for review of application.

If you are considered a potential candidate, the Volunteer Coordinator will call you for an interview.

Once interviewed, you will be screened (references checked), and the Coordinator will schedule you to attend a mandatory training/orientation.
For volunteers of the Russell street site you attend the same session. (contact coordinators at either of 2 sites for further
information about location) & for College street & Queen St. Site volunteers, a separate training session for mental health
is offered. Again, contact the coordinators for location of the session.
