Leaving the Forensic Mental Health System
The Forensic Mental Health System in Ontario: An Information Guide
Ending the Relationship with the Ontario Review Board (ORB)
You are no longer under the authority of the Ontario Review Board (ORB) when:
-
you have been granted an Absolute Discharge, or
-
you have been found Fit to Stand Trial and returned to court.
At this point, you no longer have to stay in contact with mental health professionals. However, in most cases it is better
if you stay connected to a hospital or community mental health services.
Staying Connected to Community Resources
Many people who are no longer under the authority of the ORB still need some help. This support can help you avoid coming
back into the forensic mental health system.
If you are taking medication to help treat the symptoms of mental illness, you must keep seeing your doctor. Staying connected
to a mental health resource can also help you deal with challenges you might face while living in the community.
