Challenges & Choices: Finding mental health services in Ontario

Many people gave their time and expertise to develop this important book. A working group at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health reviewed several drafts and offered thoughtful feedback. The second and third drafts were reviewed by clients, family members, the general public and service providers across Ontario. This book is the result of their collective wisdom.

For a fuller treatment of this subject, we refer readers to The Last Taboo: A Survival Guide to Mental Health Care in Canada by Scott Simmie and Julia Nunes. As well as presenting the opinions of many mental health care providers, this book provides a personal touch and invaluable insight into the mental health system. It is written from the point of view of people who have accessed the system either as a client or
family member.

Another useful resource for people living in the Toronto area is Making Choices: A Consumer/Survivor's Guide to Adult Mental Health Services and Supports in Toronto. It provides general information as well as many listings for mental health and support services, and is updated regularly.
