Youth Addiction & Concurrent Disorders Service
What We Offer
The Youth Addiction and Concurrent Disorders Service (YACDS) offers treatment to youth, ages 16-24, and their families, who
are concerned about their substance use, with or with out a concurrent mental health concern.
We work from a harm reduction model and take a flexible and individualized approach with youth.
We offer a broad range of services for youth, including specialized outpatient groups and individual counseling, case management,
day treatment and psychiatric consultation. We include the family in treatment wherever possible, and can provide support
for parents and family counseling. We also offer a comprehensive assessment, focused on identifying treatment needs and issues
in the areas of both substance use and mental health. We have a Section 23 TDSB academic day program, REACH, which offers clients 16-21 the opportunity to earn secondary school credit while participating in treatment.
How It Works
The first step is a telephone intake, to determine if YACDS has appropriate services to meet the youth’s needs. Following
this intake, the youth will be asked to attend an orientation session to learn about our services and approach, and to complete
some further screening tools if they decide to seek treatment. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to attend the orientation
with their youth. The next step is a comprehensive assessment with a YACDS therapist, to develop a complete understanding
of the youth’s presenting issues, and an individualized treatment plan that meets their needs in the areas of mental health
and substance use.
How To Reach Us
The Youth Intake Line is: 416-535-8501, x1730. You may call and leave a message at any time, and an intake worker with return
the call as soon as possible. Youth, parents and referral sources are all welcome to call the intake line to initiate a referral.
