Getting Help

Psychotic Disorders Service

What We Offer

We see children and youth, under the age of 14, along with their families, who are referred with concerns involving psychotic disorders (such as schizophrenia) or symptoms of psychosis.

We offer assessments, including  assessments for children who are at a high risk of developing schizophrenia.

We can help with impressions about diagnosis and management suggestions. We also at times liaise with school staff, offering information about the child's problem and how to better support the child in the school setting.  We offer time-limited outpatient treatment, including individual and family therapy and medication management. When appropriate, we may refer to other services or treatment settings as needed.

How It Works

A referral is required from your family doctor, pediatrician or psychiatrist.. During an assessment, we  will speak to your child and family individually and  as a group. We may also ask you and your child to answer some written questions.

We will offer treatment recommendations to you and the referring physician or a mental health care provider near your home, if necessary. We may suggest that your child be treated at CAMH.
