Getting Help

Psychiatric Consultation Service

What We Offer

We offer consultations for children and youth and their families, who may be experiencing any of a variety of adjustment, emotional, behavioural or family difficulties.

How It Works

Referrals can be made by a  family doctor, pediatrician or psychiatrist. The psychiatric assessment may include one or more interviews  over several visits. To better understand the concerns, team members  will meet with the child/ youth and their family, separately and/or together.

When the child’s or youth’s problems are causing difficulty at school  we often seek information from the school to find out how the child/youth is doing there. Similarly, if the child/youth is already involved with other agencies, we may ask for additional information before beginning the assessment. We only contact the school or other agencies with the appropriate permissions. This is done in a respectful manner that protects the child/youth’s confidentiality.
