Getting Help

Better Behaviours Service

What We Offer

Children and youth referred to BBS may be fighting, breaking rules, having difficulties in friendships, falling behind academically or having problems negotiating adult expectations.  Problems are serious enough to be noticed at home, at school, with peers or in the community.

Individual Therapeutic Work

We offer individual therapy for children, adolescents and families to help them learn new ways to deal with problems related to aggression.

Psychoeducation Groups

The Incredible Years Parenting Program is a 12-week parent training group. It is offered to parents who need help managing aggressive and disruptive behaviour in their children, ages 3-12. The group promotes positive behaviour in children, reduces parents' stress, improves the relationship between parent and child, and lessens aggressive behaviour in children.

The Dinosaur Social Skills Program is a group for children, ages 4-8. The program teaches children positive ways to communicate, solve problems, deal with anger, build self-esteem and develop social skills.

Both programs use videos, exercises, homework, group discussion and role-plays.

Day treatment

The CATCH Program is a 10 month, day treatment classroom, for children, ages 6-8 with disruptive behaviour. It serves eight children per academic year. Regularly scheduled family work is an essential part of the classroom’s work.

The CATCH classroom is a partnership with the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) and is housed in a community school.  It offers academic and therapeutic programming. The academic programming follows the guidelines and curriculum set by the Ontario Ministry of Education.

How It Works

The first time we meet with you is for an assessment. In the assessment, we like to see as many family members as possible, including the child or youth that is experiencing problems.  We may meet all family members together and then some family members on their own.  The initial assessment is usually 6-5 hours, over two visits. At the end of the assessment, we will recommend options that could help your family. If we cannot offer the appropriate help, we will help you find these resources in the community.
