Income Supports: Ontario Works

The Ontario Works (OW) program provides financial and employment assistance to people in temporary financial need. 

To qualify for OW you must be

• a resident of Ontario,
• in immediate financial need, and
• agreeable to participate in employment activities (unless you are exempt from participation).

The amount of money you receive from OW will vary depending upon your rent and family size.  The maximum amount per month that a single person can receive from OW is $536.  You may also be entitled to drug and dental coverage, eyeglasses, hearing aids, dentures, community and employment start-up benefits, transportation allowances, special diet benefits, etc.
