Getting Help

Generic Housing

This housing is available to everyone, including people who do not have concerns about their mental health or substance use.

Generic Private Market Rental Housing
This housing is owned by private landlords. The tenants pay full rent and cook, clean and care for themselves. This housing can be expensive. Many people who have low incomes, or are getting help from ODSP (Ontario Disability Support Program) or OW (Ontario Works) cannot afford it.

Generic Subsidized Housing
This means you pay part of the rent, and the housing provider or an agency pays the rest. Housing Connections was formed to make it easier for applicants to find and access social housing in Toronto. Housing Connections is not a landlord and does not offer housing. However, it maintains and manages a centralized waiting list for 200 housing providers in nearly 600 locations.

For more information abour subzidized generic housing, please see the Housing Guide produced by the Community Support and Research Unit in collaoration with Education and Publishing.
