Getting Help

Psychology at CAMH

There are approximately 90 psychologists, psychological associates, and psychometrists employed in a wide range of functions at CAMH. Psychology staff are integral members of many clinical multidisciplinary teams at CAMH. They are also employed in management and leadership capacities, in education and training, in policy development and dissemination, and in research.

CAMH requires that all psychologists be registered (or eligible for registration) with the College of Psychologists of Ontario.  As with all regulated health professionals at CAMH, psychologists must provide annual proof of membership in good standing with the College. For information regarding this College, please see its website www.cpo.on.ca

Psychology has a very active graduate level training program in clinical psychology. It has a pre-doctoral internship program in clinical psychology jointly accredited by the American Psychological Association and Canadian Psychological Association. This program currently had 5 full-time funded positions for each 12-month academic year. It also has a practicum training program for graduate students who are at earlier stages of their training. There is no "cap" on the number of students who can be accepted into this training and is simply dependent on supervisor availability in the area(s) of interest. Trainees from both streams come from universities across Canada and the United States.

Dr. John Arrowood is the Acting Director-of-Training for the pre-doctoral internship program and Dr. Ken Zucker is the Acting Director-of-Training for the practicum program.

Please see the attached link for information regarding the internship program and the application process.

Many psychology staff have cross-appointments at the University of Toronto, including the Departments of Psychology and Psychiatry, at OISE/UT, and at York University.

The majority of psychologists at CAMH are actively involved in systematic programmes of research, often funded by external grants. There are a variety of research opportunities available for graduate students, including collection of M.A. and Ph.D. thesis data, as well as post-doctoral positions. Publications by psychology staff can be found in the annual report published by the Department of Psychiatry, University of Toronto.

There is Psychology Council at CAMH, chaired by the Discipline Chief.
