Artistic Events

Marla works on various committees to bring a range of artistic events to the community. These events highlight the work of those whose lives have been impacted by mental illness. It is our goal to increase public awareness about mental illness and to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness. Our events include: "Framing the Phoenix - A Mental Health Art Exhibition" in May, "Windows into the Mind Film Series" in October, and this year we debuted "Music Balm - A Concert by Individuals with Lived Experience of Mental Illness" in October.

Education and Training

Marla has been involved in planning, implementing and/or evaluating various training initiatives in her communities. Examples include:

  • Admission, Discharge and Treatment Tools Training
  • Under One Roof: Concurrent Disorders and Housing Training
  • Understanding Opiate Dependence: A Workshop for Front-line Workers
  • Asking the Right Questions II
  • CAMH in the Community

Take Action in Secondary Schools Project

Take Action in Secondary Schools is a comprehensive, school-based strategy designed to support schools and engage communities in addressing safety awareness regarding medicines and harmful substances and the prevention of alcohol, cannabis and tobacco. The resource is currently being translated into French. See www.opheaprograms.net/tasecondary for further information.
