Eastern Ontario Summer Institute on Addictions and Mental Health
Heather is the CAMH co-chair of the Eastern Ontario Summer Institute in partnership with Providence Care - Mental Health Services,
and the Royal Ottawa Health Care Group. The 9th annual Eastern Ontario Summer Institute is planned for June 2012 in Ottawa. Please

Youth
Heather maintains an active presence with community partners in Eastern Ontario working to understand and support youth with
mental health and/or addictions issues. She is responsible for programs in secondary schools on the topics or mental health,
drugs, and stigma. Current areas of interest include youth, internet addiction, and online gambling. See CAMH Publications and Resources for more information.
e-Learning
Heather is facilitating online learning through CAMH courses for professionals found at CAMH Courses
Young Women and Depression
Young women have lots to say about how their life experiences and mental health. Heather provides education and resources
to gain deeper insight into the challenges that young women face; their ideas about how services providers can support them;
and how service providers can integrate girl-centred health strategies into work with young women. See VALIDITY for more information.
Drug and Alcohol Awareness Initiatives
Heather is a member of the Kingston Safe and Sober Community Alliance focused on community partnerships, programming, and education to reduce drug/alcohol related injury and death. Initiatives
include: post-secondary education, low risk drinking guidelines; and parent/family initiatives. In Smiths Falls, she is a
member of FOCUS. Initiatives include primary and secondary education; alcohol and chronic disease prevention.
Anti-Stigma Education
Heather works to help service providers ensure that their services are accessible and supportive to individuals with concurrent
mental health and substance use problems by examining stigma and the barrier it presents. Heather is a facilitator for professional
awareness development sessions and promotes the use of programs such as Talking About Addictions and Mental Health (TAMI), a post-secondary education program designed to raise awareness about mental illness among students.
Heather also works to understand, advocate, and educate about issues of housing, homelessness, domestic, sexual violence are
further areas of marginalization.
