Concurrent Disorders High Level System Planning
In concert with the Concurrent Disorders Work Group of Champlain, Alfred has a leadership role with addictions and mental
health partners to identify system-level responses to better address the needs of persons with concurrent disorders. In partnership
with champions from the addictions, mental health, primary care sectors and the Champlain LHIN, Alfred has co-facilitated
the creation of a high level concurrent disorders directional plan called, “One Person, One team, One Plan” (December 2007).
This plan has been endorsed by the Champlain Addiction Coordinating Body (CACB), the Champlain Mental Health Network (CMHN)
and the Champlain Local Health Integration Network.

System Implementation Planning: Universal Concurrent Disorders Screening
Alfred plays a co-leadership and support role with the on-going work of the Concurrent Disorders Work Group. The Concurrent
Disorders Work Group has reviewed evidenced-based concurrent disorders screening tools and is recommending that all addictions
and mental health agencies in Champlain adopt and implement universal concurrent disorders screening practices. Furthermore
the Concurrent Disorders Working Group is recommending that all Champlain LHIN funded addictions and mental health agencies
utilize one common screening tool. The tool that has been identified and being recommended is the GAIN-SS (CAMH modified).
The Concurrent Disorders Work Group initiated training on the GAIN-SS (CAMH modified) in 2010. This training has been offered
to over 300 front line addictions, mental health and allied workers across Champlain. Training activities continue to be
provided as requested with interest coming from allied services and partners in the school system.

System Planning - Concurrent Disorders and e-Health: GAIN-SS (modified) Web tool deployment
Alfred continues to support the goal of the Concurrent Disorders Work Group towards implementing universal concurrent disorders
screening for the Champlain LHIN area. A key component to support this goal has been the development of a web-based e-tool
infrastructure to deploy the GAIN-SS (Modified).
A partnership between CAMH, the Champlain LHIN, the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre (ROMHC) and the Winchester District
Memorial Hospital was created to design, deploy and support the web-based version of the GAIN-SS (Modified). This web-based screening tool has an interface in both official languages and resides in a highly secure and robust e-health environment. The web-based was successfully launched in November 2010 and provides access to evidenced-based screening for
the Champlain region.
