Concurrent Disorders

Program Consultant: Alan Cudmore, Hamilton Office, CAMH

Research indicates that there is a strong correlation between substance use and mental health problems.  A major focus of Alan’s work revolves around how the mental health and addiction treatment system responds to the needs of individuals with concurrent disorders.  Systems of care can be re-organized, programs can be adapted, and clinical staff can learn new skills in order to address the needs of those in the community who may be experiencing a concurrent disorder.  Alan works on projects at all of these various levels, such as fostering partnerships between addiction services and mental health services, consulting with agencies on concurrent disorders programming, and educating front-line staff on concurrent disorders.
