CAMH Framework for Prevention & Health Promotion
What is the CAMH Framework for Prevention & Health Promotion?
Why develop a framework?
The purpose of the framework is to guide the prevention and health promotion activities of CAMH, clarify the role of CAMH
in these areas, and assist in identifying program priorities. It provides a common language for talking about prevention
and health promotion at CAMH.
Who would use the framework?
Management, staff, partner organizations, and professionals in the addictions and mental health fields as well as the general
public could use the framework.
Description
The framework describes the influence of determinants of health, protective factors and risk factors on the quality of life
of an individual, family or community within a particular sociopolitical context. It shows the importance of factors that
individually influence quality of life, as well as the interaction among factors that exert combined influences on quality
of life. The framework illustrates how CAMH can best respond to the health needs of individuals, families and communities,
and improve their quality of life outcomes by influencing determinants of health, increasing protective factors and decreasing
risk factors.
