Olweus Bullying Prevention Program (OBPP)

Best practice guidelines for mental health promotion programs: Children & Youth

This Norwegian-based multi-level, multi-component school-based program was designed in the mid 1980s to prevent or reduce bullying in elementary, middle and junior high school students (six to 15 years old). This program works in three main areas:

  • school-wide interventions (e.g., staff training, development of school-wide rules against bullying)
  • classroom-level interventions (e.g., class parent meetings and regular classroom meetings about bullying)
  • individual-level interventions (e.g., individual meetings with children who bully, and their parents).

The implementation of this program covers training, program management, technical assistance and program resources.
